Get Your Hopes Up
Week 5 – Expectation & Community
You can trust God… and still lower your expectations.
When we know that God’s attention is on us, we begin to trust Him. Trust brings peace. Peace grounds us in clarity.
And yet — uncertainty can still linger.
I called a dear friend yesterday. My intention was simple: I wanted feedback about the content I’ve been sharing in this space. When she answered, her voice was bright with excitement.
“So… do you have good news for me?”
Her tone was full of expectation.
My response? Characteristically lackluster.
She paused and said something that stopped me:
“You write all these things about God. You should be expecting something great from Him.”
Hebrews 11:1 (The Living Bible) says:
“What is faith? It is the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen. It is the certainty that what we hope for is waiting for us, even though we cannot see it up ahead.”
If I’m honest, I had been lacking that confident assurance. Even after months of prayer. Church services. Sunday school. Revival. A class on putting God’s Word over my thoughts to combat the lies of the enemy.
I was having a moment.
But thanks be to God for friends — and for the way He uses community to impart truth exactly when we need it.
Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that without faith it is impossible to please God. I am not perfect. But I do want to please Him. As people used to tell me when I was little and looking a little off, I needed to “fix my face.” In this case, I needed to fix my heart.
Psalm 62:5–6 (The Message) says:
“God, the one and only — I’ll wait as long as he says. Everything I hope for comes from him… He’s solid rock under my feet, breathing room for my soul, an impregnable castle: I’m set for life.”
That part. ❤️
So today, I am thankful for friends. I am excited about being set for life. And I am choosing expectation.

Facets of Faith
Are you expecting something good from God in this season—or simply enduring it?
What promise of God are you holding onto right now?
How can you lean into community instead of isolating when uncertainty rises?
Affirmation
I expect God to move in my life, even when I cannot yet see it.
Get your hopes up.
Expect something great from God.
And be ready to celebrate it with your community.
Have an amazing weekend. See you next week. 💜
