Capacity
It’s Not What You Think
Capacity has many definitions. For the purposes of our discussion today, we will explore capacity from the angle of how much we can hold.
Have you had your capacity tested lately?
I could probably star in an ad campaign for capacity tests, and God could use my image on a billboard. At least that’s what I used to think. Until God gently reminded me that while my capacity test was unique to me, the testing of capacity itself is not unique.
He also showed me that my concept of capacity had been twisted by unchecked emotions.
Proverbs 24:10
Amplified BibleIf you are slack (careless) in the day of distress,
your strength is limited.
Here’s what God says about our capacity when we are in alignment with Him.
I don’t usually share this many scriptures, but my hope is that we (me and you) can come back to this post the next time we feel like our capacity is low and put the Word of truth over the lie from the enemy.
Malachi 3:10
New Living TranslationBring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!
Ephesians 3:20
The VoiceNow to the God who can do so many awe-inspiring things, immeasurable things, things greater than we ever could ask or imagine through the power at work in us.
2 Corinthians 3:5–6
The VoiceDon’t be mistaken; in and of ourselves we know we have little to offer, but any competence or value we have comes from God. Now God has equipped us to be capable servants of the new covenant, not by authority of the written law which only brings death, but by the Spirit who brings life.
The truth is that we don’t have enough capacity to hold all the amazingly wonderful things God has for us.
So be encouraged.
Holding what hurts us and being weighed down to the point where we don’t have the energy to love others is not of God. That doesn’t mean we won’t have rough times, but we can’t stay there.
God is too good, and He loves us too much.
When we are in alignment, the truth about our capacity becomes undeniable and livable. ❤️
Gem Takeaway
Sapphire is one of the hardest natural gemstones, ranking a 9 on the Mohs scale—second only to diamond. Its strength allows it to withstand pressure while maintaining its structure.
Our spiritual capacity works in a similar way.
When we are aligned with God, He strengthens us so we can endure pressures that might otherwise overwhelm us. Alignment doesn’t remove the weight of life, but it gives us the strength to carry what God has assigned.
Facet of Faith
Where might God be strengthening your capacity right now?
Pressure can sometimes feel overwhelming, but it can also reveal the strength God is building within us as we stay aligned with Him.
Affirmation
As I remain aligned with God, He strengthens my capacity to endure and to grow.
